General information on the OSN


Introduction

  • The Sierra Nevada Observatory (OSN) is located at Loma de Dilar in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, in the province of Granada. It is operated and maintained by the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalucia and contains two Nasmyth telescopes with apertures of 1.5 and 0.9 meters.

General Characteristics

  • The general characteristics for the two telescopes are:
    Aperture: 1.5 and 0.9 m
    F Number: f/8 for both telescopes.
    Optical design: Ritchey-Chretien
    Mount: Fork mount
    Focal assembly: Double instrument carriers enabled by switching of the tertiary mirror for each telescope.
